Free Activities To Do In Alexandria Virginia

When family and friends come to Alexandria to either tour our complex or visits loved ones, they often ask what there is to do while staying in the area. Here is a partial list of sites you can take in with little or no budget at all!

  • There’s an awesome self guided tour of the city one can do, simply by using your phone! Dial (703) 229-8632 and use a tour map to key in numbered locations for a narrated tour of city sites.
  • The King Street trolley is not only free, but it’s a great way to tour and visit the shopping district.
  • Walking along the waterfront is a great way to take in the sights and sounds of the river or watch boats as they dock at the Marina. Street performers can usually be seen entertaining the crowds.
  • The George Washington estate can be seen while exploring the Mount Vernon Trail, either by bike or foot.
  • First Thursdays Celebration: During the spring and summer evenings, the Del Ray neighborhood offers a festive and family friendly celebration along Mt. Vernon Avenue.
